Dental Sealants

It is that time of year where all of our children are hitting the books and back to school!!! It is very important to remember to protect our loved ones teeth. Our teeth are constantly being covered with a sticky film of bacteria called plaque. When we eat or drink anything that contains sugar or starch bacteria turns the sugar into acids that can attack the tooth enamel.

The grooves on the back of your teeth are hard to keep clean. The great news is that we can protect your teeth and prevent decay. ;-) Dr. Abadin and his Hygienist recommend dental sealants.

What is a dental sealant?

-A dental sealant is a plastic material that is applied to the chewing surface of a back tooth. The sealant acts as a barrier, protecting the enamel by "sealing out" plaque and food.

How are sealants applied?

- Sealants are easy to apply. First, the teeth that will be sealed are cleaned and prepared to accept the sealant. The sealant is then "painted" onto the tooth and then hardens.

How long do sealants last?

-Sealants last an average of a few years before a reapplication is needed. However, it is important to see Dr. Abadin and you dental Hygienist regularly to check that the sealant remains intact.

DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental Implants are artificial roots generally composed of titanium. They are made up of three different parts. The implant (which looks like screw) integrates with the jawbone; the abutment, which fits over the portion of the implant that comes out from the gum line; and the crown, which fits onto the abutment for a natural appearance.

LASER DENTISTRY

Laser dentistry allows Dr. Abadin to provide more precise, less invasive dental treatment with minimal discomfort. Laser dentistry reduces bleeding, anxiety, and post-treatment recovery. Dental lasers damage less surrounding tissue than traditional techniques. The Laser also allows Dr. Abadin to perform procedures with little or no anesthesia. It also reduces the need for stitches/sutures. The Laser can be used many different ways, some but not limited to include:

*Reshaping soft tissue-("gummy smiles" will become more attractive)

*Biopsy

*Tooth preparation- Successfully kills oral bacteria around the surgical site.

The Laser beam is extremely bright and patients are required to wear protective ear wear. Dr Abadin will then direct the beam of light to the affected area and carefully dissolves the soft tissue or prepare a filling. Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain that are custom made (Shape and Color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of the natural teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile. Veneers can often be an alternative to Crowns and many dental conditions. Although Veneers are long lasting like any dental treatment they may someday need to be replaced. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new veneers. Veneers are used for many reasons, cosmetic, crooked teeth, misshapen teeth, severely discolored or stained teeth, teeth that may be to small or to large, unwanted or uneven spaces, and or worn/chipped teeth. The process of the Veneer treatment usually requires two visits, with little to no anesthesia. The teeth are prepared by lightly buffing and shaping the surface to allow for the thickness of the Veneer.
