Healthy Mouth, Healthy Body for a Lifetime

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:
Have you ever thought of our mouths as the doorway to our body? We all know that maintaining the health of our teeth and gums prevent cavities and bad breath, but did you know a growing body of research suggest that the health of your teeth and gums may be very important to your overall health.

Gum disease is swelling or soreness of the gums(soft tissue). Periodontal disease is a chronic infection caused by bacteria. When you do not brush plaque (sticky, colorless film) it forms on the teeth and produce toxins and enzymes that irritate the gums. If left untreated, teeth may eventually become loose and/or fall out. Evidence suggest that oral bacteria may lead to heart disease, artery blockage, and stroke. Some studies show periodontists can make it more difficult for diabetics to control their blood sugar.
